Whenever any user logs in, out, or does su I get a messege like:
Code:
login(pam_unix)[19260]: session opened for user root by (uid=0)
What is this, and how do I get rid of it. I looked for a clue with the PS1 variable, bashrc, the pam scripts, and syslong-ng config. I couldn't see anything that would cause this. This messege is just an annoyance for me, I searched google and the forums, I didn't see anything that pointed to this problem, if I over looked a post I would gladly read it, thank you for your time.

This always appears in my logs (dmesg) but I never see it anywhere else.

Why is this annoying for you?

I think it annoys me because I like my logins to have the basic amount of information, if I logged in on a terminal, I don't need a messege being posted saying I did, because the command prompt tells me that I have successfully logged in. Also this is the only machine this happens on, and I have 4 Gentoo machines I run so I like all the environments to be the same.

I found out my problem, I didn't start syslog-ng. That solved my problems. Lesson for all those out there, noobs and verterans, I have been running Gentoo for about a year now, and I forgot that step. Have fun.
